The Big Help Out, The Big Sort Out on 8 May 2023

The public is invited to sign up for a two-hour slot to experience volunteering at our Food Bank as part of ‘The Big Help Out’. We have dubbed the event ‘The Big Sort Out’

The Big Help Out is a campaign to showcase how volunteering benefits both communities and the people who take part. The long-term aim is to get more people volunteering who traditionally don’t consider it. As part of the Coronation weekend, Monday 8 May has been declared a National Day of Volunteering.

Our Food Bank is providing up to 90 members of the public a two hour ‘taster session’ in three ‘shifts’: 9am - 11am, 11am - 1pm and 1pm - 3pm on 8 May 2023. Each shift will start with an introductory presentation and a tour of our Food Bank. Next, The Big Sort Out takes place in groups of 6 to 8 people. Volunteers will be either be sorting through food donations, receiving more food, moving items around, or stacking items on shelves. Please register to take part. Maximum four spots per email address / group.

Food donations will come in on the day or will have come in earlier as part of the Coronation Food Drives that we encourage the public, organisations, businesses, schools and churches to arrange.

Sorting through donations will require some lifting, prolonged standing and the ability to read food labels / expiry dates. Children age 14 years and older must attend with a responsible adult. Please do not bring younger siblings or pets due to space constraints and safety concerns. Unfortunately, we must limit each session to 30 volunteers due to available space so full = full.

Help us raise awareness of Food Banks. Together we can make a BIG difference to local households in crisis!
