Introducing our new Food Bank Van!
In August 2022 we took delivery of our wonderful new Ford Transit Long Wheelbase refrigerated van. Previously we borrowed and rented vans from time to time. Having a van available enables us to scale up our operations just as we anticipate demand to increase further due to the cost-of-living crisis. We are incredibly grateful to our anonymous donor who made this possible!
The van is used in four main ways:
FareShare fruit & veg collections - 3 times a week
To collect large orders of purchased food to supplement donated food – weekly
To pick up excess surplus food from seven supermarkets – daily
To collect large amounts of donated items - ad hoc
We owe a special “thank you” to our Trustee Doug Knight whose expertise and experience meant that the van arrived on time with all the relevant extras installed (refrigeration unit, reinforced floor to take pallets, reversing camera and a rear “sacrifice” bar). Doug took an enormous amount of trouble managing the purchase and specification of the van.
